Technigo's UX Design Students Worked with Lifesum

In our recent UX Design Bootcamp assignment, students delved into the realm of behavioural design and creating nudges to foster healthy habits in collaboration with Lifesum App. The design challenge involved crafting nudges and behavioural interventions that encourage users of the Lifesum app to develop and sustain healthier eating patterns.

This case study provided an opportunity for UX designers to understand business challenges, research nudging techniques, apply UX psychology skills, and eventually pitch their ideas to the stakeholders in the Lifesum team. Let's dive into the journey of UX students!

Lifesum's UX Researcher, Sofia, shares her thoughts after students demo solutions:

"I am surprised that the students managed to deliver these ideas in just a few days! Impressive how they tackled the assignment, their design process and the outcome they delivered.  My colleagues and I felt inspired, and the demos really gave us a new spark of creativity. And I can't wait to meet the students as colleagues in the future!"

What was it about?

The assignment started with a comprehensive analysis of Lifesum's objectives and user pain points. Together with UX Researcher Sofia, we understood who the app's users are, what challenges we want to address in design solutions, and how the app currently helps users achieve their healthy eating goals.

Students explored the existing user journey to identify areas where behavioural design interventions could significantly impact users. This involved understanding the challenges users encounter in adopting and maintaining healthier eating habits, such as decision fatigue, emotional eating management, intention to lose weight, and lack of sustained motivation.

Which skills the students get to practise?

✔️ UX Psychology Application to Design
✔️ Funnel Optimization
✔️ Nudging
✔️ UX Copy
✔️ Pitching your idea to a client

After understanding the challenge, students got into the nitty-gritty details of flow optimisation. They iteratively crafted optimised user flows, ensuring a seamless medication tracking experience. In the final phase, students developed a compelling pitch articulating their proposed improvements and got feedback on their ideas and how medication tracking flows can be improved.

Outcomes

✔️ Students developed multiple behavioural solutions to enhance healthy eating habits within the app.
✔️ Application of usability and visual design principles to create engaging interfaces for an existing app
✔️Empathy mapping of different target groups
✔️ Collaboration with Lifesum's existing design system to maintain a consistent user experience.

At the end of the week, students pitched their solutions to the Lifesum team and got feedback on their ideas!  Stay tuned for more exciting case studies and UX explorations!

How did the students like the project?

“This week's topic was one of my favourite ones and all from reading to doing the assignment was exciting and fun. Behavioral Design / UX psychology is one of the main reasons why I picked UX design!”

"Having a real client is the best. It puts a different kind of pressure and gives a realistic approach and insight how it can be to present for stakeholders and receive feedback."

"Fun working with an existing app and the way you can get creative with the assignment!"
