My Rollercoaster Ride: Insights From Student Laura

Hello friends, Laura here 👋. I went from studying economics to becoming a neonatal nurse, then changed my mind to studying information architecture and landing a job as a web designer. It's been a rollercoaster ride, right?

While working as a web designer, I realized how much I enjoy the CSS/HTML part of my job. I was constantly feeling drawn towards doing more complex things while being limited by a CMS (software that helps users create, manage, and modify content on a website without the need for technical knowledge). YouTube, Instagram and Google were my sources of inspiration. I followed some coding accounts, breezed through some CodePens and befriended the coders at my company. One of whom, my friend Dragon, kindly invited me to Frontend Masters, and my UX/UI Designer friend Hanna invited me to some lectures at a company called… Technigo. Once I started looking into Technigo more and more, I realized I really wanted to study there. The atmosphere felt so friendly and cosy, and the depth of possible knowledge was everything I had looked for. A year went by before I finally took the chance to apply with the help of my current workplace, RevolutionRace. They saw and understood my passion and wanted to help me fulfil my dreams of becoming a coder. Said and done, I went to study the Web Development Bootcamp.

"My time at Technigo was intense, confusing, and amazing! I had the best possible team on my side, and we all got through it with grit and passion."

My time at Technigo was intense, confusing, and amazing! I had the best possible team on my side, and we all got through it with grit and passion. If it hadn't been for the team, I think many of us would have had a hard time during the bootcamp! For me, dealing with a full-time job, two children, a kitten (and a husband), getting through the bootcamp without friends by my side would have been devastatingly hard, not to say boring. One of the best projects was, of course, the final project. Just being able to use all our skills to do something I really wanted to create and use? So much fun! I still use my web app to this day!

Thanks to my managers supporting my journey to become a developer, I could be pretty confident knowing I would have a job as soon as I graduated. Of course, paperwork and other business can always come in between, making things take longer than you'd think from the start. But shortly, I will continue my journey at RevolutionRace, then as a full-time frontend developer. That being said, I have, of course, already started a little on the side—how could you not when it's so much fun!?

"My advice for others is to talk to your company. Businesses always need more developers, and where is the best place to look if you are now" at home"?"

My advice for others is to talk to your company. Businesses always need more developers, and where is the best place to look if not "at home"? Educating the staff and finding new developers with prior knowledge of the business they are running is an excellent way for the company to improve staff and customer satisfaction; that's what I believe! See if the possibility exists, and ask around; it never hurts!

With love, Laura
