Story

From Yoga & HR to Systems Specialist

Name Jasmin Hedlund

Graduated from Web Development program

Works at Atea

Before studying web development, Jasmin Hedlund was self-employed within yoga and health — a role she still has — alongside working in HR and recruitment. While those fields were meaningful, there was a growing desire to move into something more future-facing.

"I wanted to move into a field that felt timely, stable and offered long-term growth, with varied tasks that would challenge me."

Frontend development became a natural entry point.

Learning to approach problems

Looking back at the programme, the most valuable takeaway wasn’t a specific framework or language — it was learning how to approach problems.

"The most valuable thing was learning how to think: breaking down problems, debugging step by step and not being afraid of the unfamiliar and new in systems, code and documentation among other things."

"Learning how to approach problems has been incredibly useful, and it’s a skill I can carry into any role within tech or IT."

Building from scratch

The final project became a clear highlight.

"I’m most proud of my final project, which I built based on my passion and personal interests. The Intention Hub."

A lot of care went into how the product feels to use.

"I realize that for me, the most fun part with learning to code is to be able to build from scratch."

Moving into systems and backend

After graduating, Jasmin was offered a role as a Systems Specialist at Atea.

"I’ve been offered a role as a Systems Specialist at Atea, working with IT systems for regions and municipalities."

The role focuses on system administration and backend work, with responsibility for systems, security and technical processes.

"This role allows me to apply the problem-solving mindset, structured thinking and debugging skills I developed during my studies."

"I chose Atea because it is a large company that offers internal training and great opportunities for growth. I am especially keen on areas such as sustainability and security."

Advice for those learning to code

"Don’t worry about having a “perfect” path. Learning to code opens many doors, not only frontend development."

"Focus on understanding fundamentals, problem-solving and how things work. Those skills are transferable and incredibly valuable in many tech and IT roles."

"Persistence being the key word, not only during your studies but afterwards finding your way in a new field as a junior."

Inside perspective

"Coming from a different industry, I was surprised by how IT and tech hiring works. It’s less about skills and more about personality."

"They are looking for a team mate, almost everything else can be learnt."

A mindset that lasts

"Learning to code showed me it’s never too late to start something new. Curiosity and persistence matter most."
