Programming Opened up For Remote Working

Paula is participating in the Web Development Bootcamp remote from sunny Palma, Spain. Despite having a teaching degree, she felt unfulfilled in her career as a teacher. Her desire for more flexibility and freedom led her to explore web development and consider a career change.

Goal to work from wherever in the world

"I thrive on embracing new experiences. I'm originally from Sweden, and my passion for exploration led me to relocate to Palma. The allure of travel has always held a special place in my heart. After spending summers visiting my parents, who had settled here, I traded the Swedish weather for sunny Palma with my partner. While my journey began without a concrete plan, my goal has always been to have the freedom to work from anywhere, which naturally steered me towards a career in development."

From teaching to wanting something more

"Before immersing myself in the world of coding, I worked as a teacher in Sweden. Despite pursuing a teaching degree and briefly teaching a sixth-grade class, I couldn't shake the feeling that it wasn't my true calling. Traditional employment's rigid structure and lack of flexibility left me wanting something more. My introduction to Technigo came through a friend who had previously studied a program there. Intrigued by what I read about the bootcamp, I was drawn to its dynamic approach to learning, particularly in frontend development, which really resonated with me."

Motivation and career aspirations

"As a former teacher, the concept of lifelong learning has always been ingrained in me. Embracing this mantra, I realized that I needed to lead by example. Witnessing my progress week by week has been incredibly rewarding. From the initial uncertainties to the profound understanding gained, the journey has been both challenging and exhilarating. My ultimate goal is to establish myself as a frontend developer. I remain open to the diverse opportunities that come my way. Flexibility in my work schedule is key, allowing me the freedom to choose when and where I work."

Advice to other career changers

"Just do everything you think about. It's much better to do it and realize "this wasn't for me." Go for it! The worst thing that can happen is that you don't do the things you felt you could do. You can always try something else. I wanted to move from Sweden for a long time and realized I would feel miserable if I was only sitting here dreaming, doing nothing about it."
